Quality over quantity: future direction of AJ

Well after some what of an extended break from Tumblr (thanks to Uni and other reasons) we’re back… I want to address a few things before getting back to business as usual tho..

Firstly, Average Jolts has lost a few followers over the past week, and That is ok, you are all free to do what you want and im not going to chase  HUNT you down… :) But for those of you who have chosen to stay, I want to explain one thing… while Joel and myself ARE documenting our fitness journey, we also dont want to flood your feeds with useless drivel. Joel and I agree that our lives aren’t the most interesting existences  going around… and you likely dont want to hear about every bite, Poop, and step that we take…

BUT we do feel we have a lot of valuable information and insight to offer the fitness/fitspo world… so while we may not always post SUPER regularly, you can be assured that when we do post, its something which we find particularly useful or inspirational, or something we are most proud of.

If I can ask just one thing of you, please dont give up on us if you havent seen a post in a few days, we’re still here! By all means drop us a line, or check the blog directly for a post that may have rocketed through your newsfeed…

I’d much rather provide you with quality, than force you to sort through a bunch of rubbish to get to the good stuff.

Thanks for reading… plenty more quality to come in the future!

What fits your busy schedule better, exercising for one hour a day, or being dead 24 hours a day?

Men and their Egos: it’s just poor form.

Have you ever been to the gym, and over in the corner theres a guy straining out a rep or two on a weight that is well above what he is capable of?

You’ll usually find its a group of teenagers trying to show off to their mates, or even hoping that the pretty girl that just walked in will notice them.

At my gym I see this regularly, particularly on Bench press and Bicep-curls, but also on other exercises.

To me such a behaviour makes no sense at all. When you are doing curls, it’s supposed to work your bicep. If you need to utilise your obliques, back, and a giant swing of momentum, just to get the weight up… i’m sorry buddy but the weight is too heavy for you! Moreover you’re probably going to hurt yourself in the process.

There seems to be a stigma surrounding lifting “lighter weights”, but why… If you actually want to gain muscle, you gotta do the exercise correctly! and you do this by being realistic about your capabilities.

Yeah your not lifting as much as the burly man next to you, but he’s probably been weight training for 15 years, and you have to start somewhere…

Its another case of GET REAL WITH YOURSELF.

by all means Push your limits, but keep your form… you’ll be amazed to find you actually get results.

Thanks for reading!
